I started out by making a heavily textured piece of art on 140# CP watercolor Paper. This is half of it (there's another journal with the other half here).

I used a lot of Golden products, Crackle Paste, Mica Flakes Gold fine, Molding Paste, various colors of Fluid Acrylics, then added some Liquitex Glass Beads & Gold Leaf. Also used Zutter waste, screening for texturing the molding paste and a palette knife. (see detail pics below)

I used a heavily texture thick mulberry green paper to cover my bookboard. I first did a dry brush paint application to the paper because it was a bit garish on its own. I used Golden's fluid acrylics "Jenkins Green" & "Iridescent Gold" which caught on the high points.

I did a totally hard cover structure using a decorative running stitch with bead accents using 4ply waxed linen thread for the signatures and a 2 ply to attach the beads both in a forest green color. The round beads are ornamental and the hearts are red glass with inclusions.

The artwork is adhered with glue and then gold snap eyelets which add extra structure and detail. The corners are protected with gold book corners.

The inside covers are covered with a gold/silver marbled Thai paper.

Each of the 5 signatures has 10 pieces of 24# Neenah, Neutech 25% cotton Ultra White Wove Finish paper folded in half to make 40 pages per signature for a total of 200 writeable pages. This is a beautiful paper to work on, accepts inks with little to no bleeding. Great for calligraphy and journalling.
