I started out by
making a heavily textured piece of art on 140# CP watercolor
Paper. This is half of it (there's another journal in the works
with the other half). I cut out a frame from green mat board and
put a second piece behind as a backing and glued my artwork
within. The art work, as the name suggests, is very 3
dimensional, and I was hoping to give a bit of protection to it,
but it still sticks up way above the mat board frame.
I used a lot of Golden products, Crackle Paste, Mica Flakes Gold fine, Molding Paste, various colors of Fluid Acrylics, then added some Liquitex Glass Beads & Gold Leaf. Also used Zutter waste, screening for texturing the molding paste and a palette knife. |

I did an open spine binding using 4 ply waxed linen thread in an olive color over dark green binding strips which are reinforced to the covers with gold long neck eyelets. Rubber stamped the quotes (Quietfire Design) on a cream toned mulberry paper with Versafine Black Onyx stamp pad. Each of the 5 signatures has 15 pieces of Xerox Premium White 24# paper folded in half to make 60 pages per signature plus the decorative paper covers for a total of 300 writeable pages. I added 4 gold book corners.
