Thomas Hoyer Class "Ruling Pen - Beyond The Rules" (May 26 & 27, 2008)
Created May 30, 2008
The Watercolor Letters was a half day class on Sunday afternoon. and I wish we had more time for this one too. I loved all the different ways of applying color. |

Paper: Arches 140# HP watercolor paper Thomas gave us an alphabet sampler that he designed based on Versals. Some of the letters had geometric shapes under them. I really loved his "V", so that's what I chose to use. We outlined the letter in black with a waterproof type pen, then wet the letter with water and dropped in our colors, moving and merging them along so they blended nicely. I use this style when I'm doing my Kersals. When I was finished with the letter it just spoke to me and I had to put the words under it. |

Paper: Arches 140# HP watercolor paper Thomas had done a piece with the word "Fire" done in a bright yellow and the edges touched with red in a very jagged style lettering. It's gorgeous. The piece looked like it was going up in flames. Basically we create a letter with the Ecoline and while still wet, we follow the edge with another color using a very fine paint brush. Where the brush touches the wet letter the colors merge to create a lot of energy. Depending on the colors used it can be very effective as Thomas showed us with his "Fire" |

Paper: Arches Text Wove This was done with the Haff 629 and continuously loading the ruling pen with another color of Ecoline. Thomas demonstrated the "g" & "y" tails on the letters which I really liked, so am practicing them. |
Merci Buckets (it's a French Slang for Merci Beaucoup) |

Paper: Arches Text Wove Again letters were created with continuous color changes and having each letter touch the next. Love my Ecolines |
