Uncial with Kerri Forster

Date: October 26, 2017
Modified:

I took an Uncial class given taught by Kerri Forster this October. 2 hrs per week for 4 weeks. I really like this format and the class was fabulous. I think I got a good handle on doing Uncial now... Now all I have to do is keep practicing. BIG GRIN

The card on the left is a direct result of one of the exercises we did in class and then I translated it into a card. You can see the details and descriptions by clicking on the card image. Enjoy

The calligraphed pieces below are quotes I read in books this year and they resonated with me and I knew I had to do something with them...

ID: Uncial - Everything Leads Me To You
Size:  8.5"w x 8.5"h
Size Matted: 14"w x 14"h
Matted: $75.00

This was the first piece I did. I used our Guild's Classic Cotton 25% pad paper.

The Italian, outside lettering is done with a Taklon 1/4" flat brush, Winsor & Newton watercolors in a Yellow and side dipped into a deep orange.

The inner text done with a 3.8mm Parallel pen filled with diluted Sumi ink. Pencil shading added and blended with a paper stump.

ID: Uncial - Always Be With You
Size:  9.5"w x 8"h
Size Matted: 14"w x 11"h
Matted: $50.00

This was the second piece I did. I used a no name brand multi purpose pad paper.

The Russian words were done with the Taklon flat brush and a Winsor & Newton olive green paint. When dry I colored in the negative areas with Prisma colored pencils in an orange and a yellow, then blended with a Lyra Splendor Blender. Sorry the image doesn't do it justice - the color between letters is a soft yellow.

The English text is with the 2.4 Parallel pen and Sumi ink.

ID: Uncial - I Am Strong
Size:  9"w x 5"h
Size Matted: 9"h x 12"w
Matted: $35.00

This was the Third piece I did. It was actually the first quote I came across when reading and started me on looking at these phrases... I used a no name brand multi purpose pad paper.

The Hungarian word was done with a Taklon 1/2" brush saturated with water and just the tiniest tip dipped into a pink paint. I immediately sprinkled with walnut powder, then continued with the next letter. Allowed to dry, then did my English text with a 3.8 Parallel Pen and the Sumi ink.
