BVCG - Dec 2019 Lettering Challenge - Week 2

Created: December 6, 2019

I usually love challenges and this one is right up my alley.

Size: 5.5"w x 8"h

I was remember a workshop I took with Thomas Hoyer in Ruling pen and decided to create something similar to what I made in class. I'm happy with the results... I used  a ruling pen with water and dropped Ecoline inks into the wetness on the smooth side of Canson CP watercolor paper. Painted in the negative areas with Derwent W/C leaving a white space between the negative and the lettering.

I came across a video of pencil lettering using various weights of pencils on 65# Staples cardstock. So tried the technique. I used a 6B, 3B, B and 2H. I'll need to remember this. I love using pressure and release type lettering and this would work well.  So a good exercise...

Love this one... I wrote in the outline of the letters with the Zig Writer on glossy photo paper, then dropped in the Ranger Pearls alcohol inks and blending solution, moving things around with a paint brush. When dry went over the outline again to reinforce it.

Size: 7"w x 5"h

I have a bunch of Copic markers I never use, I'm just not into alcohol coloring... So I wrote my monoline word on glossy photo paper using the yellow, then outlined it with all the subsequent markers.

Size: 6"w x 6"h

I took a class eon ago with Betty Locke using a "B" nib. So thought I'd play with it. Wrote out each letter with the largest "B" nib in the magenta color on glossy cardstock, then with the smaller "B" nib dropped in the blue.

ID: "Memories"
Size: 8"w x 3.5"h

I have a bunch of various styles of automatic pens... something else I don't use. Sheesh. Wrote the word using the automatic pen and the green Bombay ink on glossy cardstock. Used my pointed Niko G nib and drew in the red lines.

ID: "Naughty or Nice"
Size: 7"w x 5"h

I made this Stimudent pen probably 12 years ago... actually I made a whole bunch of them in various widths... but using the smallest one I had. Inked it with the green FW acrylic ink and wrote out "naughty" on 110# Staples cardstock. Used another of my automatic pens with the Pearlescent pink ink. When dry shadowed with a black Zig Writer and highlighted with a white gel pen.
