ID: National Soup Month

Mailing Due Date: Jan 9th, 2008
4.5"w x 4"h

I think I was "gong ho" this month since I decided to create 3 mingle pages for Jan. This is the second one. I really wanted to use the Shakespeare quote "Double Double Toil & Trouble", but there wasn't enough room on the front, hence I doubled the inside area with the doors, which also give the illusion of cupboard doors being opened to reveal canned soup.

The words "What's Cook'n" was done with colored pencils on Black Spectrum cardstock. I mounted it to white Canson Mi-Tientes cardstock. Added some cardstock circles and held them to the cover with copper eyelets. Here again I used 2 ply waxed linen - olive drab - thread (Quietfire Design) to hold the doors shut.

On the inside I drew a cauldron with flames and a roiling soup mixture and spoon. The words next to the cauldron "This ain't no chicken soup"

The Shakespeare quote was done with transparent watercolors and I added various colors of glitter in the small "o's"

Quote: Double, double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble. Fillet of a fenny snake, in the cauldron boil & bake. Eye of newyt & toe of frog, wool of bat and tongue of dog adder's fork and blind worm's sting, lizard's leg and owlet's wing, for a charm of powerful trouble like a hell-broth boil and bubble. Macbeth Act 4 Scene 1

Back with front doors opened

I created a drop down accordion folded booklet which is held in place by the bottom and top black strips. Pull out the bottom section first then grab the back page of the booklet and everything drops down. The booklet is only attached at the top edge. Lots of interesting facts about soup, it opened my eyes to some new things too.
