ID: Leaf Eater This is another of my caterpillar books but instead of the shape of a butterfly I used the shape of some leaves. I used a darkish green mat board for the covers, cut out the scalloped edge to mimic the leaf edges and ran a Krylon Gold Leafing pen along the edge. Rubbed an Essential Glue pad over the cover and with sponge applicators , applied my decorator chalks, smooshing with my finger as well. Used a Sakura Gold Gel Pen "Black" for the veins and to delineate the leaves. Sprayed it with a light coat of Krylon workable fixative. I used a beautiful thick cream colored paper (L.B.S. Endsheets). Cut them into an oval shape. Added a cover page to each signature from a painted Thai mulberry paper with a leaf motif. The book has 10 signatures of 3 pages each plus the cover page (total 40 pages) |

The caterpillar is done with 4 ply waxed linen thread (dark chocolate and butterscotch) the 4 coptic lines, 2 lines on top and 2 lines on the bottom are done with a 2 ply waxed linen thread (dark emerald). I made the ladybug from some Premo Pearl Red in a small oval shape, pushed some hollows in for the dots, added some curled wire for the antennae and baked it, when cool rubbed it with a touch of Dorland's wax. |
