I used a cream colored cardstock, attached a textured pebble paper in a beige/brown and wrote "Happy Birthday" in black pen along the left side. I added a strip of gold metallic paper and then a hand decorated paper. For the hand decorated paper I used arches text wove, sprayed it with various brown color washes and added salt while wet. When dry I rubber stamped the words friends in different styles and gold or glitter embossed them. For the finally layer, the black square, I used a decorative blade for the edges and wrapped it with a fine gold metallic thread.
