One of my quilling friends was trying to make this flower from a pic she had. She was using standard quilling paper 1/8"w and trying to make it the same size as the image... wasn't working. Too chunky looking. She needed to enlarge it so that it would be proportionate to the paper she was using. I mentioned she'd probably be better off using 1/16"w. So I decided to try making one myself using the 1/16' and I'm really happy with the results. It does take quite a bit of quill paper and time and is a bit on the high side for mailing... sigh!! I used 3 colors (fuchsia, pale pink and a creamy yellow - last row of petals)

I've started carving my own stamps again... the water lily leaves.

I'm using parts of a couple Quotes & sentiment stamps, from Quietfire Design as well as one of Suzanne's newest die cuts.

("A smile is the best.."); ("Always Be My Friend" 3pce set); ("Happy Birthday Plain and Simple" 7pce set); Hello die

I

When I looked at the quilled flower - it reminded me of a water lily, whether that's what it is or not who knows... I didn't have any water lily leaves... so decided to carve one from some clear carving material by Jack Richeson - easy Cut Lino - "Clear Carve Lino". I love that it's clear so you can see where you're stamping. I used a Speedball carving tool.

Inked up the stamp using Distress "Peeled Paint" all over, then some "Forest Moss" applied in streaks, misted with water and stamped onto 110# white cardstock. Cut a mask prior stamping the other 2 leaves. Used a Prisma colored olive pencil to outline the leaf. When the 3 leaves were stamped, hand drew a large leaf shape around the stamping for my front and cut out. From this I created my easel. Sponged around the leaves with my dirty blue and green sponges (probably had some salty ocean and peeled paint on them). Stamped the water droplets (Designs By Ryn) only inking the part of the stamp I wanted to use on each leaf and inking with Versafine Black Onyx and clear embossing. When the card was more complete applied Glossy Accents to the water drops.

Die cut the koi (Memory Box) from some decorated paper I made eons ago using a hand made calligraphy stencil I made (see pic below). Who would have thunk it would work so well for the colors of a koi. Trimmed one of them down a bit to give the illusion of swimming under a leaf.

Stamped the Happy Birthday around a few of the leaves using the black.

Die cut the "Hello from the decorated paper and applied glossy accents, set aside to dry, then adhered to card front.

On the floor: stamped a couple of the leaves. Die cut another koi and added a small tab so that it would become my stopper.

Stamped part of the quote - A smile is the best - leaving of "Christmas decoration of all". used a stamp positioner, masked of the rest of the quote and stamped the word "Treasure". Clear embossed the quote. Drew a leaf shape around it and fussy cut. Sponged with the greens and adhered to floor with 3D foam tape.
