I've wanted to do these type of leaves for quite a while now... and at my last quilling session, one of the ladies used this quilling technique to make an angel and it brought it to the foreground of my mind again... Then I also so a neat type of flower made using a fringed quill strip and thought I would try it. Always looking for unusual quilling techniques.

I'm also using one of the newest "companion" stamp sets from Quietfire Design Normally the part on the inside would be on the front and the one I put on the front would be it's companion on the inside. But you know me... I do things differently.

Stamped my sentiment with Versafine Sepia on a cream toned card and clear embossed.

I partially cut a mask from some mat board using a Spellbinders Labels #18 largest die, then continued cutting with my x-acto knife. Embossed the front of my card with Couture Creations Serenity series embossing folder "Ambrosia" and placing my mask to only emboss around the edges. Sponged with Distress Scattered Straw and Frayed Burlap.

I used Distress stains to color the scrap edge from some Arches Text Wove paper I had laying around, misted with water and dried, then cut into strips. Used a quilling comb to create the leaves.

For the fringed flower I used a wide copper metallic quill paper (7/8"w), folded it part way - lengthwise so it's now approx 5/8"w - and placed on my largest fringing die (Quilled Creations "Mums") with the folded edge just shy of the cutting part of the die, ran through my machine and then removed it from the die, unfolding the fringe to get a double length of a fringe. I used a thin quill tool to curl the fringe all of them in the same direction. I wanted to put it onto some Mizuhiki cord, but couldn't find mine... so put it on to a braided gold string. I put a piece of 3mm Sookwang tap along the quill strip, folded over the end about a 1/2" onto the braided string to start the flower, then started to twist around the string. Each flower is half the length of the quill die cut.

Adhered the quilled elements.

Stamped the sentiment on the inside with the sepia and clear embossed. Stamped the leafy branches (Stampin Up "Blossom" set) a couple times with Distress Scattered Straw and touched with Crushed Olive. Then adhered my quilled leaf.
