Cola Flower - Serenity card
Created: March 25, 2011
I recently came across a blog that used Tim's Fanciful Flight Sizzix die to make a flower. It was beautiful. And at the same time, I've also been using Coca Cola cans to make just ordinary die cut flowers. So I decided to combine the two. I really like the way the flower turned out. This card uses one of the words from Gentle Words set by Quietfire Design |
The flower is made as I mentioned from
coca cola cans using the inside silver part. Die cut with the
detailed small wing shape and colored with alcohol inks (Willow,
Mountain Rose and a touch of Stream). The solid under layer petals
were die cut from some glossy paper I had done with alcohol inks in
the plum/pink tones. I adhered both layers together with some extra
heavy gel medium and a punched out white circle and let dry. The
button in the center is made from Air Dry Polymer Clay by Lumina.
Never heard of this stuff before, but just came across it and
decided to try it. Works really well for this application, but takes
around 24 hours to cure. I added some Perfect Pearls (sunflower
yellow) and some Luminarte powder in gold's and blended it together
before pressing into my button mold. I then added a drop of water to
a brush and painted more gold to the button - let dry. The Asian symbol was die cut on black paper and I used the negative portion for this piece, I ran it through my machine with the Oriental Weave embossing folder (Cuttlebug Asian Bundle set), then adding a piece of double sided tape to the back and sprinkling Ritz Micro Fine glitter (Chartreuse, Sweet Basil) and burnishing well. Layered it onto a white cardstock leaving a miniscule border then layered it on to the olivey green cardstock. Punched out some white picot borders (Martha Stewart Around the Page "Iron Gate") for the top and bottom. |

Pearls on butterfly body |
The leaves are more cola can die cuts using the big solid wings from the butterfly die, then running through my machine with the flourish design embossing folder (cuttlebug "Love is in the Air" set). Daubered some Willow (Adirondack) and Vibrant Green (Delta Ceramcoat) all over, dried it, then sanded the high points to expose the aluminum. I die cut some butterflies (Joy crafts) from Tim's Masking blanks and placed them on my purple background, then over layered them with a swirl background (Crafters Workshop "Cosmic Swirls") and pounced or sponged Perfect Medium pad, then brushing on Perfect Pearls (Perfect Gold, Forever Green, Plum). I added white Inkssentials dots around the edges of the butterfly wing to make them stand out a bit more. Then added miniscule white half pearls for the bodies. Stamped the word "Serenity" with Brilliance Silver and clear embossed. Assembled all the layers on to a white main card and added the white Guipure type lace trim. |
