ID: MC Apr -  Joy Fold - Song of Solomon card
5"w x 6.5"h

Created: April 23, 2010

I found the instructions for this Joy Fold card shape when I was checking out the challenge on No Time to Stamp. It's another interesting card shape for my repertoire. Also the digital image I used for those flowers came from Wild Flower Patch, although I have to admit, I couldn't find the area to download it, so I just saved it and cleaned it up myself.

I figured this color combo would be good for a sympathy card, although it got away from me and is probably a bit busy for that. Probably ok for someone close to me.

I used the yellow from the Recollections "Spice Market" pack of cardstock. It reminded me the most of curry (or maybe turmeric).  Scored and folded it at the 3.5" mark. Used a Metallic striped dark grey paper on the left side keeping a small yellow border.

Printed the flowers onto white cardstock, then colored them in with Prisma colors (#942 & white), a Lyra Splendor Blender and a Super Ferby metallic grey. By blending with the white and or the blender pencil, there's an amazing variety of colors that can be achieved. The leaves are colored first with the yellow, then blended with the white, then overcolored with the Grey, then with the blender. I was amazed at the greenish tinged color I got. It was an accident, since I colored the leaves with the yellow, not realizing it was a leaf. Sigh!! But it's something else for my arsenal. I cut out a separate flower and edged it with a black marker.

The inside is sponged with Distress Milled Lavender (nice grey tone) and a touch of Pumice Stone and uses a Tim Holtz Large Flourish mask.

As a final touch, added various sized amber rhinestones, and some Distress Stickles "Mustard Seed" to the flower centers.

The little card is die cut with the Spellbinder's Labels #8 die from deep grey linen textured cardstock. The quote piece is first colored with Pan Pastels in two tones of grey, rubber stamped with the quote (Quietfire Design) with Perfect Medium and embossed with Stampendous "Sunny Yellow Pastel" Opaque (finally found a yellow embossing powder that works well). Then die cut it with a small of the labels #8 dies and sponged some of the lavender and stone around the edges.

I changed the color of my thread this time on my sewing machine and used a charcoal grey to sew on the two ribbons, a sheer grey and a semi sheer yellow. Put a piece of the same metallic grey as the flower section to hide the stitching on the back.

Adhered my grey card to my yellow card. Punched and adhered some Sakura (Carla Punch) flowers and leaves (Punch Bunch), from leftover papers. Attached the dogwood flower charm with a mini staple. Then attached the cut out flower with 3D tape squares. Cut a piece of Parchment stationary to fit inside the grey card for a personalized message.
