gg designs challenge for August is to use wood veneer. What an interesting medium. Yes I've used veneer, but only on my furniture - BIG GRIN so using it for a card, was extremely interesting.

OK so I didn't have any veneer in my stock pile, although I did have beautiful real cork paper. So a trip to my hardware store was in order. They only had Birch and Oak, so I picked up a roll of each.

The oak is the horizontal strip, which I colored with Distress dye stamp pad, "Tea Rose" sponged on, then rubber stamped the sentiment (Quietfire Design) with Versafine stamp pad "Black Onyx".

I started out with a piece of Stonehenge cream toned paper (from my scrap heap) which still had the deckle edge on it and wanted to incorporate. Drew a couple lines approx an inch apart, applied my Mona Lisa size and Robertson 23.5 real gold leaf. Then embossed my designs.

Took a piece of scrap matte black cardstock and crimped it and adhered it under the deckled edge.

Put a piece of the dark cork, which has little areas of shiny black in it, really pretty. Lay it on the horizontal bottom section, then the oak strip crossing all the textures.

For the birch square, I punched out a mask from a McGill stackable series large punch #92092, making it larger by folding my paper both horizontally and vertically and inserting it into the punch so the cutting edges would not cut through the folded sides.

I then used Distress stamp pads again, Tea Rose, "Weathered Wood" & "Walnut Stain" and the sponging tool. Rubber stamped the quote (Quietfire Design "Wheresoever you go") with the Black Onyx stamp pad.

The collage of all these pieces, were then trimmed down to leave a border for the dark brown Canson Mi Tientes cardstock to show . This was then mounted flush to a medium toned brown value cardstock.

On the inside I put a single piece of gold Parchment paper.

Great guy card for many different occasions. Just put what the occasion is on the inside.
