ID: Apple Get Well Soon -
Booklet Quote Card
Created: August 18, 2007 Our Guild Galleria for September /07 is about apples, and one of the thoughts that came to mind was the quote "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", so I created this Get Well card. I
used a soft green Bazzill cardstock for the card. I punched out
letters using my Cuttlebug and my favorite Sizzlet's alphabet
die set "Wingo Dingo" from some Stonehenge cardstock.
Glued those letters to a plain piece of paper to create an
embossing template. I then embossed a piece of linen paper
running it through my Cuttlebug, trimmed it down to fit the
card, and applied Pearlescent chalks using a versa mark stamp
pad as the binding medium. Edged the paper with a red Zig
marker, glued it to my card. The apple is done on some white
cardstock. I wrote out the quote with a thicker micron black
pen, then used the flat of a colored pencil to color the apple
(various shades of green and red). Skimming over the quote left
extremely thin white lines that shadowed the lettering. I added
a faux fabric leaf. |

I cut the pages for the booklet from Grumbacher's Pentalic "Paper for Pens" in the shape of a red delicious apple (4 signatures of 2 pages each) and a cover slightly larger than the pages from red cardstock. I edged the signatures with a red Versa Mark stamp pad to give the illusion of the skin of the apple. Bound it with a simple over under stitch then glued the spine only to the pre scored spine area of the card. (loved my Scor-It which gave beautiful scored lines). Used a country red 2 ply waxed line thread for the binding I left the rest of the card blank for a personal message. |
Thanks to Anne A for finding some of the quotes within. If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples than you and I shall each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange them, then we each will have two ideas. George Bernard Shaw An apple is an excellent thing... until you have tried a peach. George Du Maurier You cannot sell a blemished apple but you can sell a tasteless one in the supermarket provided it is shiny, smooth, even, uniform & bright. Elspeth Huxley

There were apples painted in pale green & bright red on a ground of emerald leaves. It is all one color. One might say a Cezanne. Maurice Dennis If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe. Dr Carl Sagan What plant you in this apple tree? Sweets for a hundred flowery springs to load the May-winds restless wings, when from the orchard-row he pours his fragrance through our open doors, a world of blossoms for the bee, flowers for the sick girl's silent room, for the glad infant sprigs of bloom, we plant with the apple tree. William Cullen Bryant "The Planting of the Apple Tree" I
know the look of an apple that is roasting and sizzling on the
hearth on a winter's evening, and I know the comfort of eating
it hot, along with some sugar and a drench of cream... I know
how the nuts taken in conjunction with winter apples, cider and
doughnuts, make old people tales and old jokes sound fresh and
crisp & enchanting. Mark Twain |
