I'm creating a bunch of gilded cards as samples for a gilding class I'll be teaching in Aug/09. These are some of the samples. This batch all use Els Van de Burgt Peel Off designs (Spring 2009). She came out with some gorgeous designs and the tulips are really nice. The word sentiments are my calligraphic Peel Offs sold under Els label at ecraftdesigns.com. There are are over a dozen themes with different style lettering on each sheet, and they come in black, white, gold & silver.

Gilding supplies available through Quietfire Design

I started out with a piece of white 110 lb cardstock that I ran through my Zyron (double sided tape will also work) and placed a couple Peel Off tulips down, then using an Evolving images rectangle "Thang" medium size, (love these plexiglass thangs), cut out my rectangle making sure some of the leaves protrude from the rectangle. I used the bullet tip of a Zig black marker to edge the cardstock on the top and the edges, then adhered it to my main redish toned card. Used Mona Lisa size mixed with a dash of yellow gouache (gives a warmer under layer for the gilding plus makes it easier to see where you're placing the size). Used composition gold, then a very thin stylus for the design work. When that was done, applied the size for the red variegated gold leaf. Colored in the leaves with some Prisma Colored Pencils and burnished with the Lyra Splendor Blender.
