In Renate's Blackletter class I recently took, one of the exercises was to write some letters and then cut out the negative spaces. I thought it would be a good way to create my Stampede piece.

I wrote all the letters of the alphabet using a 6.0mm Parallel pen and Sumi ink on white paper. Scanned it and then using my photo editing program, selected each letter placing it where I wanted. When content, I saved it as a jpg image.

Opened SCAL (Sure Cuts a Lot software for my electronic cutter), sized it to about 5"w x 7"h and cut from a gold mirror cardstock.

Cut a shadow layer at .075 and cut from black cardstock. Adhered the 2 layers together and then onto my white gold pearlescent cardstock (Paper-Garden.ca).

Wrote the quote with a 1.5 Parallel pen and Sumi ink on white cardstock. Adhered to a black cardstock and then onto my cut letters.

Words: Letters speak, I listen.

Size: 10"w x 10"h

This was the first take I did but found it a bit too large.

Cut the letters at 8"w x 9.5"h. Inked with pigment ink and embossed with Emerald Creek "Mirror Gold" embossing powder. Layered to a shadow layer of black, then onto a deep red cardstock.

Inked the quote, trimmed down, layered to red and then black cardstock, then onto the cut letters.
