This is a piece I made for the Fish Creek Library exhibit that our Guild will be in, in January 2012 with a theme of nature/conservation etc.
It took me a while of playing with concepts and then all of a sudden it evolved.
I love the quote and used it before in a mini booklet of trees and nature that I submitted to Vamp Stamp news, so I thought I'd do the quote again.
Did the upper section with a Nikko G nib and Sumi ink on Arches Text Wove, when dry, shaded with either a yellow or green colored pencil, then went back in with an 2B pencil and a paper stump. Love these letters and they're inspired by Lori Vliegen, whose fun lettering style I love.
The rest of the quote is done with the same pen, but in a funky monoline that I love. I then went in a colored some of the "holes" with the same colored pencils.
Drew in my Birch trees - love this technique - using a relatively flat ruler and the flat side of a pencil, just flick it, then do the other side of the tree in between the first flicks. Add a straight line and voila a Birch tree.
I then put a wash layer of light Ultramarine blue for the sky.
