This
is one of my entries for the 2006 Calgary Stampede
contest. Sorry but, the framed image on the right is
darker than it should be, but it shows the purple
mulberry mat and lavender metal frame.

I used
Arches 140lb HP watercolor paper. I dry embossed outline
style capital letters and put decorative marks on the
top and bottom. I used colored pencils in purple and
grey for the main text section and red, yellow, orange,
blue & green for the decorative section. By using
the pencils on the horizontal rather than the point of
the pencil I was able to skim over the valleys of the
embossed lettering. I highlighted a few areas to make
the letters pop. I thermal embossed the word
"Creative" with purple embossing powder then
used Twinkles H2o's to color them in. I used a purple
toned mulberry paper to cover my mat and painted a metal
frame in the lavender color (the framers didn't have my
color in stock and I couldn't wait for them to get
it).

My
thoughts behind the design were to do the opposite of
what the quote implied. Rather than be flexible and
adaptable, I put the words within a rigid framework
without any room for change.
