BVCG - Oct 2022 Lettering Challenge |
Created:
October 4, 2022 I usually love challenges and this is another one right up my alley. The bottom image is my first take, but since it was done on cheap paper and warped... I created another version below
|
|
Day 1 - 14 On Master Choice 140#watercolor paper I wrote out the alphabet using various sized chisel brushes 3/4", 1/2", #12 and #8 double loading them with various watercolor and shifting my paper and letter orientation constantly.. When dry, wrote a bunch of letters with just a wet paintbrush over the previous layer, which dragged some colors. Then misted lightly to bleed a bit... After the artwork was dry, wrote in all the words, again turning the page and letter orientation, using a 3.0 Parallel pen and Sumi ink in Wouters'style lettering. |

Day 1 - 31 I spent the day with the gals creating this piece... On cheap calligraphy paper I created the background. I wrote out the alphabet using various sized chisel brushes 1/2", #12 and #8 double loading them with various watercolor and shifting my paper and letter orientation constantly.. When dry, wrote a bunch of letters with just a wet paintbrush over the previous layer, which dragged some colors. Then misted lightly to bleed a bit... Of course my cheap paper distorted quite a bit so photographing it was impossible and it was larger than my scanner bed so there is a bit of distortion... After the artwork was dry, wrote in all the words, again turning the page and letter orientation, using a 3.0 Parallel pen and Sumi ink in Wouters'style lettering. I need to do this piece again on good paper.
