BVCG - Bkgrds - Pan Pastels Secret Image:
12"w X 14"h Created: February 15, 2009 I used a Columbia Mills End sheet paper. Put an 8.5 x 11" paper mask and created the border with Pan pastels in various colors, blending them with a dry Costco, Kirkland brand baby wipe (my newest Pan Pastel tool). Removed the center mask and cut a right angle frame mask (similar to a mat sample in a framing store) and colored in the central portion with some similar and a few different colors, blending again with my wipe. The outside blending is a more mottled effect whereas the inner section is more evenly blended. I used a Pebbles Inc. chalk eraser, trimming the edge of the eraser into a chisel shape and then using it as a calligraphic tool for the word "Secret". I used colored pencils an a Carl Rohrs technique I just learnt of flicking the pencil for t he shadow/accent areas rather than using the pencil to color the whole shadow line as I normally do. I really like this effect better. The rest of the quote was done with Moon palace Sumi ink, and a Mitchel very small nib. I used my Scor-it board to create a raised dry embossed line enhancing the frame edge area. I recently got an EK Success jumbo punch of a flourish design which I absolutely love. So I punched out some flourishes from a glossy black paper and some from the center mask, trimming them where needed so the flourishes blended together . |
