This month's galleria piece was to use a workshop technique. Since I really loved the Black Letter class with Renate, I decided to do my piece with that hand. I also did some experimenting using Distress stamp pads on Arches Text Wove - not recommended. I really wanted the spattered look I have now, but the texture on Text Wove, doesn't allow for this mottled effect, so I ended up doing it on 110# cream toned cardstock. Don't ask what colors I used, because I used every color under the sun. I know for sure I used Mustard Seed, Peeled Paint, Aged Mahogany, Pine Needles.

I did a mock up on some scrap paper, then I did one with better lettering, scanned it and positioned my text around to see what I liked best. I ended up with this one, because it was a little riskier than the others I had, one being everything centered, one being everything to the right side. BORING!!

The ink flowing out of my Parallel pen was just coming out to quickly, so I ended up using an empty one and as a dip pen into Sumi Ink. I also had a bit of a bleeding problem at first, but when I changed to a dip method and the Sumi, it seemed to get better. I used a 2.4 for the main text and a 6.0 for the Neuland hand.

I'm still working on my vertical letterforms. Sigh!! But they are getting better.

The word "Daring" I decided to do in a slightly funkier Neuland and then colored them in with both Prisma Colors and Lyra Metallic Super Ferby's.

The quote is by Oprah Winfrey. I couldn't agree more with the quote.
