Another piece I created for an upcoming show being held by our Guild after I found out we could also submit dimensional pieces... (1st week in May 2014).

I found on the web a frame made out of accordion folds and was intrigued, which is how this booklet started. Then I also picked up this St Armand 150# very rough handmade paper and thought it would be perfect for this booklet. as well. I was right... The only problem was, after creating the structure, what was I supposed to put inside or use as a theme. Sigh!! Then I went to my trust quote database that I keep and this was the first quote I came across - perfect.

I took an 8.5 x 11" piece of cream 110# cardstock and smeared it with Distress "Gathered Twigs" to give it an aged feel. Then I used my Scor-It board and scored along the 11" side every 1/2". Cut it into two pieces 4.5 & 6.5'. Folded and burnished the folds. Then cut along the center fold line - so now I have 4 pieces for my frame. I used the Twigs Pad and ran it along the creases of the accordion both sides. The accordion folds slip into each other at each corner (but work one corner a time) and glue just the outside end pieces. Continue with the other 3 sides.

The cover for the booklet is the St Armand paper in a bright white. It has a natural deckle edge which I didn't want to cut away, so to get the size I wanted, I used my ruler and wet a paintbrush and ran it along the ruler a few times to soften the paper, then just tore it along the ruler.

I scored the paper for the cover, then the spine area, the back , another spine height and the the flap.

I had a left over piece of the paper, so trimmed it down and smeared with Distress pads "Mustard Yellow", "Worn Lipstick", "Picked Raspberry", misted with water, and smooshed it around with my finger. Dried. I scored it to wrap around my front cover to hold my flap closed and glued it to the inside of the cover. Wrote the words "Zen Thoughts" with the parallel pen on calligraphy paper, sponged some of the brown and red around the edges and adhered to front band. Adhered a few leaves and some gold ringed pearls.

I decided to make a cover for the frame from another new paper I just got "Kraft Tex" which feels like fabric but is kraft colored paper.  I ran it through my embossing machine using Couture Creations "Pastorale" and a bit of "Petite Fleur" folders. Hit the high points with the Twigs pad and adhered it to the frame. Created a 2nd frame for my quote piece.

Quote done on Arches Text Wove using a 2.4mm Parallel Pen and Sumi Ink in a funky lettering style. Then colored some of the negative spaces with Prisma colored pencils. I also added two words done on a separate piece of text wove and edged it with the brown Zig marker and added the dragonfly brads. Also stamped a mini snowflake (Inkadinkado) using Versafine black onyx on the large "W" in Winter. Adhered to frame and then onto the cover.

Spring has its hundred flowers
Autumn its moon
Summer has its cooling breezes
Winter its snow
If you allow no idle concerns to
weight on your heart
your whole life will
be one perennial
good season.
The Golden Age of Zen

For the roses: Direct to 90# HP watercolor paper with the yellow, red & raspberry, misted with water, smooshed with my finger on both sides of the paper. When dry, sprayed one side with Perfect Pearls "Sunshine Yellow" and let that dry. Then eCut the petals which I created for a previous card. Misted the petals and formed them with a large balled stylus, then assembled them. I also eCut some leaves from 90# W/C paper colored with "Mowed Lawn" & hit with "Forest Moss", misted with water, smooshed and dried. Scored some veins after eCutting and then direct to paper with the Moss pad.

The leafy branches are a Memory Box die (Lorelei) cut from the same green decorated paper.

The dragonfly was somehting I had in my stash, glittered wings and flocked body. adhered to booklet with 2 layers of 3D foam tape.

Breathe, I calligraphed, scanned, eCut and also cut a shadow. Hit the top layer with the yello & red pads and embossed with Pearlescent embossing powder. The under layer I colored with a brown Zig Writer, hit with a Versamark pad and clear embossed. adhered the 2 layers together. Adhered to booklet with 3D foam tape.
