Tim Holtz Techniques
Perfect Distress

Created: May 30, 2009
Modified: June 12, 2009

These are all made with Distress ink pads, some Perfect Pearls and plain cardstock.

The technique starts with laying down some Distress stamp pad ink onto a melt art mat, misting with water and laying your paper into it and moving it around a bit to get color over most of your paper. Drying thoroughly, then rubber stamping an image with another Distress stamp pad and immediately brushing on Perfect Pearls onto the wet stamped image. Since Dye inks dry quickly you have to be pretty fast to get to the wet image. when dry you can brush off the excess Perfect Pearls. Then mist your stamped image a bit and watch it bleed from under the Perfect Pearls. When this starts to happen dry your piece with a hair dryer to stop the bleeding. That's the main technique.

Then he embellished by rubber stamping around the edges with a lighter shade or not pressing so hard so the image is more ghost like. Then with a sponging tool, working some Distress colors around the edges and corners.

I had fun trying it out using the same colors Tim did and made a wonderful greeting card that's on my blog and web site here. Then I thought I'd try a few different combinations and put them into my technique journal. These are the results of the play day.
