Glitter October 2009

I've been putting together an OnLine glitter class and started thermal embossing on burnished glitter. Then a friend said she was coloring with Bic Mark-It pens which are alcohol based. That got me thinking since the glitter is basically a non porous surface, I thought I'd try coloring with the alcohol inks on them. Needless to say it worked. Then I thought I'd try watercolor media on the glitter, and that worked too. A whole new world.

So they all start the same way on white 65# cardstock. A layer of 2.5"w sookwang double sided tape (Be Creative Tape). A layer of Glitter Ritz micro fine glitter (cool Highlights - can use warm highlights too). Burnished really really well. It should feel like a baby's bottom, so smoooooth. Clean off all excess glitter that wouldn't shake off into the jar with a damp paper towel.

Now starts the coloring:

Flourish & Grow: I rubber stamped the large flourish (Inque Boutique Monarch #52001 set) with a gold pigment stamp pad and embossed with gold. I then colored with Bic Mark-it alcohol based pens and Ranger's alcohol blending solution and moved around with an empty waterbrush. That purple line on the bottom left hand side was too dark in my opinion, so I started by dampening the paper first with the solution and then touching the tip of my brush onto the pen tip and coloring that way, then adding more color straight with the pen and blending some more. Rubber stamped the words Flourish Grow (Quietfire Design) with the black stamp pad. Mounted to a bright green Textura cardstock. See detail pic below.

Autumn: I used alcohol inks straight from the bottle and dripped drops onto the glitter, letting it dry and adding different colors or blending solution into the center of the drops, letting dry and continuing this way several more times. Then rubber stamping the leaves (The Stamp Barn #CHSH2671) with a Versafine Black Onyx stamp pad and clear embossing it. Mounted it to a bright yellow cardstock. Wrote in my words with a black Zig Writer.

ByGone Days: Rubber stamped the flowers and butterfly with the black stamp pad and clear embossed. Colored with Tombow watercolor markers and moved them around with a waterbrush and water. Added the words with a dark blue Zig Writer. Mounted to a bright blue cardstock. PS you can use other watercolor media as well, like Sakura Glaze gel pens, or even the Metallics and Stardust pens, ArtQuest watercolor Palettes etc.
