Misc - Mica Magic - August 2008

I saw this technique demonstrated at a Stamper's Celebration demo many years ago and liked it then, but never went any further with it. This past week, I was at a friend's house and she asked if I new anything that could be done with these pads and immediately thought of that demo. So we had a nice play day. And this week I decided to create some for me and these are the results.

Take a sheet of black regular cardstock, you can either keep it whole or cut down to ATC size. Smear the Mica Magic pads randomly over the page creating nice streak areas. rather than a mish mash effect. When done, rub with a Perfect Medium pad or similar clear pigment ink pad, then clear thermal emboss. Repeat with more embossing till well coated. lay under heavy books or something till totally cooled so there is less warp. Cut into ATC sizes with a very very sharp x-acto knife, otherwise you'll get a lot of shattering on the edges.

I then emphasized the streak marks with either Glitter Ritz, or mini marbles, or The Robin's Nest beads etc. Added some rhinestones or fiber of brads where necessary.

Rubber stamped quotes (all from Quietfire Design) onto Shrink Plastic, either clear or opaque using Staz-On black or Butter Cream. Put into toaster oven until shrunk and cooled under melt art sheets with weights on top again to prevent warping. Mounted them to colorful cardstock.

PS: Sorry about the quality of the pics, but Mica Magic on black is extremely difficult to scan. Just know that these have wonderful glitz and nuances.
