Tyvek - Corganics  (November 2007)

Modified August 16, 2009

I was playing with Tyvek and heat altering it and having quite a good time. I still am experimenting with other heat sources, but thought I'd upload what I've done so far. I've named them Corganics partly because the holes and craters created with heating Tyvek remind me of coral, and partly because they have this organic look to them, hence Cor Ganic. They also worked for this weeks (Nov 6/07) Created By Hand Challenge, which was make an ATC using black cardstock.

I used a sample piece of Tyvek #1073B which seems to be the thickest in this sample pack. Used Twinkles H2o's then shrunk it both with an iron and a heat tool till I got the shape and size I wanted. Glued it to the metallic silver cardstock, then sewed it on as well using a blue metallic thread. Added some Peel Offs dots. Lettering done with a script nib and blue Twinkles, when dry over lined it with a black micron pen. Mounted it to a black cardstock.

I used Lumieres on this one. Don't really like how the Lumieres reacts. Will try again to see if it was just me that day or what... Used a metallic purple cardstock, rubber stamped a quote several times (Quietfire Design "Look for the dream") with perfect Medium and embossed it with Marcasite (a black silvery combination). Glued my purple netting then my Tyvek. Used Lettreset letters for the word "dream" on the sticky side of the sticker frame. Mounted it all onto a fuchsia cardstock.

This is the first one I made. I misted the Tyvek with water (about a 6" square) and used several of Daniel Smith watercolors straight from the tube. I used my heat gun, moving it around constantly while drying the wet paint (no patience to wait for it to dry naturally). I then put it on my melt art mat, and kept it in place using my awl point, heated it with the gun until it started deforming, then with another piece of melt art mat, pressed down on the hot Tyvek to keep it flat, and let it cool a bit. Turned it over and did it again. Repeating until I got what I wanted. Mounted it to black cardstock. Added some gold glitter in some of the hole areas. Used my Nikko G nib and Bleed Proof white ink for the lettering "What?". edged it with a Krylon Gold Leafing pen and mounted it to purple cardtsock.

This one and the next "Possibilities" were a bit of a mistake but I like the way they ended up.

I used Adirondack Color Wash (Butterscotch, Raisin, Terra Cotta) and a bit of Daniel Smith w/c on misted Tyvek. After drying the paint, I placed the Tyvek between 2 melt art mats and used a dry iron on high (that's probably a no no...). The next thing I new, my Tyvek almost disappeared. I only had a very thin acrylic like film attached to my melt mat. I peeled it off and liked the filigree look of it. Lay it on black cardstock. Used the ink and nib from above to do a Zentangle type design and wrote my word "Corganics". Mounted it onto bright green cardstock.

This is another portion from the one bove. I mounted it to a dark green textured cardstock. Drew in my squiggles and word "Possibilities" with the ink and nib from above. Mounted it to a bright canary yellow cardstock then onto black cardstock.

This is my favorite so far. I used the Daniel Smith watercolors. various colors on misted Tyvek. Dried it, then deformed it with the heat gun as my first one. It's hard to see, but I got some nice craters and holes and love the colors. I mounted it to black cardstock then onto a tissue covered cardstock from one of my previous background techniques (where I wiped up the wet paint with a tissue and let the tissue dry then glued it to cardstock with Golden's soft gel medium). I thought the  colors matched so well. Did all the squiggles with a Sakura Gold "green" gel pen. The words with my nib and Jacquard's interference gold mixed with water.

This is the only one that is not glued down to the cardstock. Instead I threaded fuchsia metallic thread through the holes and wrapped it around the scalloped edged black cardstock. Mounted that to a bright pinky cardstock then onto black cardstock. Glued in a pearl and added some gold glitter around it. My words "Corganic Suspension" were written with my nib and Twinkles H2o "Interference Violet".

Same as "What?". Used Tsukineko Opalite (Orchid Ice & Golden Mist) stamp pads to color the black cardstock. Added copper sequin flowers and aqua mini rhinestones in the center of each. Mounted this to aqua cardstock then to black cardstock. My word "Corganics" used my nib and the Interference Gold with water.
