Calli Mono (April 2009)

Created: April 5, 2009

Modified:

I was taught this technique in a calligraphy class by Cari Imai in March 2009. After doing the one in class, I said to myself I really want to make a few more and this was the perfect way, not too big and not too small.

It starts out with two pieces of contrasting (black and white) paper or cardstock of different proportionate sizes So I drew an ATC card and then drew a rectangle inside that which was about 1/4" smaller on each side (this was my black piece of cardstock). Then drew in my monoline letters for the words (words shouldn't be too many letters long - 4 to 7letters, and need to touch top and bottom edges, sides or each other. So I've given you the basic word on the right, cut along each solid line and then placed them on my contrasting cardstock (white cardstock), skewing and re-spacing each cut piece and leaving some of the pieces out all together. Surprisingly you can still read the word. Just goes to show what the mind can untangle.
