"Background" SERIES (July 2006)
Modified: June 1, 2008
The technique for the background was
brought to my attention by Nettonya, and she found it on this link:
http://tryittuesdays.wordpress.com/2006/05/16/technique-week-1-easy-acrylic-backgrounds/ I tried a couple of times, but was having no success. I was doing a couple of things wrong and after some back and forth with Beth, who was also playing with the technique, I realized my mistakes. I was not waiting long enough for the 3rd layer of paint (which was also not dark enough) to dry slightly before removing it. More experimenting and it finally worked. The 1st 3 ATC's are the first background I did that I ended up liking. The 2nd set of 3 ATC's continued with the above background but added up to 9 more layers of paint. (don't ask me the colors or layers, my mind was boggled) I used Arches 140lb CP watercolor paper. Put down a layer of Delta acrylics "Straw", Edged with "Pink Angel" (spritzed with some water) and 3rd layer with "Black Green" also spritzed with water, let dry a bit and then removed the excess. At this point the backgrounds diverge. For the 1st background, I used a text rubber stamp (Old Island #526D) with gesso. Put a layer of the "Straw", then cut out my ATC's. I edged them with Pentel Metallic Brush pens in gold & copper and lightly brushing up onto the front in some areas. Mounted them onto green cardstock and added my words and details. For the 2nd background, added a few more layers of the same colors as well as spraying with Moon Glows "BucketOBlood" & Golden Doubloon". I rubber stamped with large alphabet stamps (Rubber Stampede Pattern Alphabet) with gesso. And continued layering more colors. They are a pinky, more moody, darker and mysterious background. I made another background which is to die for. Really really pleased with it. It also has a ton of layers, but this time I wrote down what I did. I haven't included it here, because I think I'll save it for the last of the "Rainbow Series - Metallics" Stay tuned. |
